Property taxes and water billing information
King Township water bills for the last quarter of 2023 were mailed out recently. The due date is February 27.
New in 2024, property owners will now receive six water bills a year instead of four, for the billing cycle ending in February, April, June, August, October and December reflecting two months of usage.
Register for the Township's ebilling service to receive an electronic version of your water utility bill directly to your email. Late payments are charged 5% after the due date.
To avoid missing or late payments sign up for automatic withdrawals through the Township’s Pre-Authorized Debit Program (PAD). Download the ebilling and PAD enrollment forms online at king.ca/waterbilling.
Property tax bills are mailed twice a year, once in January and once in June. Each tax notice has two due dates on it. King Township should have received their 2024 interim tax bill in mid-January, with the first installment due on February 21.
Register for the Township's ebilling service to receive an electronic version of your property tax bill directly to your email. Avoid missing a payment by signing up for automatic withdrawals through the Township’s Pre-Authorized Debit Program (PAD).

Keeping Yards Clean in King
Some King residents are concerned about unkept properties near them.
The Clean Yards By-law 2016-68 sets out minimum standards for properties in the Township of King including some rules on litter, waste and property maintenance (long grass and weeds) to help ensure that properties are safe, clean and attractive in relation to adjacent properties.
If you wish to file a complaint about the maintenance of a property in your area, please contact By-law Enforcement Services by email by-law@king.ca and provide the municipal address a small description of your concern and your return contact information (phone number, name and municipal address). Building Permit Information
A Building Permit is formal permission to begin the construction, demolition, addition or renovation on a property. As part of the Building Permit process, a Building Permit Application must be submitted.
Township of King staff review your plans to ensure they comply with the Ontario Building Code, Township Zoning By-laws and other Applicable Law. The Township recommends getting a zoning certificate before applying for a building or pool permit.

Summer Camps and Recreation Programs
King Summer Camps offer a variety of programming throughout the Township for residents and non-residents.

Street Sweeping
King’s contracted street sweeping was completed at the end of April. The Township encountered obstacles, including some cars parked on the roadway and contractors occupying the roadway with bins and material.
The Township is continuing with street sweeper touch-ups in locations where cars were parked as well as sweeping parking lots for the Township’s recreation centres.

Plow Damage to Sod, Roads and Sidewalks
Crews have been out all month fixing damaged sod, as well as roads and sidewalks. To complete a claim report form, visit king.ca/transportation.
Gravel Roads
Gravel road maintenance is underway in the Township of King. This work is an important part of rural road maintenance and done to maintain our roads in a state of good repair. The work will begin with the re-grading of roads, the placement of granular a material where material has been lost due to winter operations or where there is poor drainage (select areas), spot ditching and the placement of calcium chloride to act as a binder and dust suppressant.
Work is continuous (weather-dependant) and will continue for the next two months. Temporary lane closures will be used when necessary to allow Township staff to complete all work. Visit king.ca/transportation.

Material should be placed at the curb in paper organic yard waste bags or open rigid containers, clearly marked as yard waste, before 7 a.m. on the collection day specified in the waste calendar, available at king.ca/waste.Street Sweeping
The Township street sweeping program is underway. Sand and debris are swept from King’s roads to prevent materials from clogging the storm sewers and to provide a safe and clean roadway for all users. King rotates the areas swept each year. Spring street sweeping has taken place in King City and Nobleton. Schomberg sweeping was scheduled to start on April 27.Residents are asked to not park or block residential streets to avoid blocking street sweeping operations.

Some residents are receiving requests from King to allow access to the water meter in the home for an accurate reading. If you received a request for a water meter reading, please contact ServiceKING at 905-833-5321 to book an appointment.
King Roads after Winter
King has 490 kilometres of roads, including 426 paved and 64 gravel roads. King’s snow clearing team keeps Township roads and sidewalks safe, while York Region manages the Regional roads in King, which includes winter maintenance.
The Township repairs cracks and potholes and regrades and scrapes gravel roads. Most repair work is done after the winter season.
Street sweeping to remove sand and debris from the winter will begin in April 2023 in Nobleton, Schomberg and King City, weather permitting. The Township will share the schedule as it’s available. Visit king.ca/streetsweeping.
Automated Speed Enforcement Tickets
Some residents have contacted ServiceKING regarding a ticket they have received through Automated speed enforcement. This enforcement, put in place by York Region, is a system that uses a camera and speed measurement device to enforce speed limits in identified areas.
If a vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit in an automated speed enforcement area, the automated speed enforcement system captures an image which is reviewed by a provincial offences officer. An image of the offence, license plate and ticket with an associated fine will be mailed within the next 30 days.

Snow clearing
The Township of King’s winter maintenance crews are still hard at work clearing snow that fell during the snowstorm between March 3 and 4. With total accumulations of around 25 centimetres, the removal of the snow has proceeded on a priority basis. This will include the removal of snow from Main Street in Schomberg later this week and cul de sacs the following weeks in each of the towns to provide room for snow storage.
King maintains an area of over 490 kilometres of roads, including 426 kilometres of paved and 64 kilometres of gravel roads with a network of both urban and rural roadways, sidewalks and ditches. Plowing occurs in priority sequence to ensure fire and emergency services have access.
Although most routes are completed with a 12-hour period, clearance times may be longer when snowfall is exceptionally heavy, many cars are parked on the street or crews are working during peak traffic times.

Waste collection calendar

Blue boxes and green bins
Some residents asked about blue boxes and green bins. In new homes, the developer provides a blue and green bin. In resale homes, the previous owner may leave these containers for the new resident. Blue boxes and green bins are available for purchase at hardware stores and may be purchased in person at the King Township Municipal Centre, 2585 King Rd., or online at king.ca/onlineservices.
